AP1000 DJI safety parachute system now available. Looks like it’s only for the large pro versions but not priced in the write up. I’m guessing it’s very expensive. But if it saves the equipment perhaps it’ll save the claims?
I’m also guessing it’ll not be long before it’s available for the hobbyists and smaller drones
$1000 or so for a bit of safety equipment for a drone that is worth £10’s of thousands is a good investment.
This will open up things like BVLOS for these enterprise drones with this system fitted so enabling mass adoption of these sort of systems. Currently these sort of applications are using custom built units with these sort of safeguards built in - but now a more accessible drone can be used.
And, for those pesky hobbyist drones, build in a channel for law enforcement to activate the cut off rotors / deploy parachute function when some miscreant is edging toward a sensitive area 
It would be pointless for the likes of me who spends the vast majority of my time flying over the sea. Once that hits the drink and salt water, it’s sayonara!
It’s a very good idea for those who fly over terra firma though.

Ooh, what a good idea. Now, when you’ve lost control of your drone, a parachute deploys so that you can chase over miles cross-country in even the lightest breeze from a place where it might have come down with relative safety, across an active airport runway and maybe onto an industrial site, main line railway, motorway, or through the open window of the girls’ school changing room. What could possibly go wrong…
