First fixed wing FPV build

I want to add a cheap fixed wing to my small digital FPV collection:

I was thinking about starting with ZOHD Drift Glider (PNP) | HobbyRC UK and Happymodel EP1 RX 2.4GHz ExpressLRS (ELRS) – Unmanned Tech Shop

Would these 2 be a nice place to start flying LOS then move on to adding an FC and GPS later on? I was thinking I could add another o4 air unit to it later on.

Having flown fpv fixed wing several years, many types, I think a good option is the Bixler… Many YouTube videos out there. It’s in its latest incarnation now Bixler 3, I believe.

there is nothing cheep about it soon mounts up

Yes, I just looked at the flight controller and the GPS with compass.

change of plan, I want to build the AtomicRC Dolphin. Am I really going to be in for a world of hurt if I skip buying the glider trainer plane first?

This is where I want it to end up:

have you got a Radio Transmitter or will you need one.

I’ve got a radiomaster boxer crush

Can anyone flying a dolphin recommend a battery? Does anyone fly them on a small 1300lipo or the big 4s1p 21700 li ion? I was thinking to keep it light for its maiden… It’s got an o4 camera on the way.

Not done any wing personally yet but Painless360 is raving about the Dolphin across several videos (one includes full build / possible battery setups,…)

Not sure I’d go for an AtomRC Dolphin as my first build.

They can fly brilliantly, but it’s not easy to get it right. There are a load of crashes and it’s not good at surving them.

Personally I’d go for a more traditional wing. I can recommend the Baby AR Wing Pro, but something like that would probably be easier for a first try.

I use a 21700 4S1P, self made with Molicell P45B cells, giving 4500mAHr capacity in a small package
Easy to get CofG and as the dolphin is very efficient I’m expecting good flight times

There’s a joke in there somewhere!
