Once you’ve built confidence and realise that your drone will stay in the air unless you do something daft (says the fule who once backed into a tree), over water becomes a viable safe alternative. The airspace is usually free of hazards and obstacles, and so long as you are high enough for the drone to monitor it’s height AGL/ASL (AWL?) it’s just a matter of keeping an eye on the battery, and the satellites!
The risk of course is if it goes in. in which case it’s likely to be an irrecoverable total loss, and beyond repair even if you do fish it out especially if it’s salt water! This has to be weighed against the risk of overflying land and running into trees, overhead cables, yappy dogs, Karen, and so on! Having lost a drone full fathom five in the Bristol Channel last year to seagull attack, I know what can happen, but it could have happened just as disastrously over land as well!
Yeh im fine over water even with my neo lol as well as coastal flying with all my drones.
