First night flight with my Air 3s

Never flown at night before, but was inspired to do so earlier after my mate sent me night shots from his new Mini 5P.

The photos and vids I shot looked fab on the RC2 but I got home and the clarity of my downloads are somewhat underwhelming when zooming in, really disappointed.

If there are any pointers on suitable settings for filming in such light I’d be very grateful.

Flying at night was a fab experience, could see the drone far more clearly (on the way out at least) and the landing light is brilliant! Cant wait to get out again.

Did you TOAL from Hythe Marina?

You have to remember, despite the lighting of the docks, it’s still pretty black out there.

Thanks for the feedback, perhaps I set my expectations far too high but I suspect with manual input on the settings I will be able to improve my output.

TOAL was from Prospect Place Park.

If you return, don’t TOAL from there as it’s not the best in terms of a direct line to the docks… I’ve often TOAL’d from the Promenade, a much better direct line over. The Marina is private property so I keep out of there. :+1:

Good to know, thank you.

Shooting at dusk, when there is still a lot of blue light, always makes evening shots pop. That’ll add depth as well as colour interest. There is a night mode. I don’t know if you used that. Here there is more flex with settings. The longer the exposure, and the lower the ISO, the less noise you’ll encounter when looking close up at images. That’s my five pennethworth

Night mode won’t help much. From my calculations taken from the image info, that picture was captured at least 2,000 feet from the dockhead. It’s like black hole of Calcutta there!

From what I read the night mode activates automatically on the Air 3s, since it detects low light and adjusts accordingly.

I’ll try some shots and vids when it’s not pitch black next time and practice by adjusting the settings manually.

I couldn’t work out why my images and videos weren’t transferring in the expected resolution, ie a 12MP photo was 5MP, from my SD card.

Anyway, I learned I needed to format it, which I’ve done, and now they’re transferring in far greater resolution. One of them is 15.8MP somehow.

Every day is a school day, right

I might pop down there tonight and see how it comes out on the Air 3S for me…

Far better than mine I’m sure!

Just about to upload my effort….

My apologies @JonVoyage, I was mixing up my Mini 4 pro (which has a dedicated Night Mode), with the Air 3s auto night time adjustments!! Just ignore me!

No worries at all, thank you for the suggestion on lighting settings :+1:t3:
