First proper job!

It’ll be on a Loch and there may be a chop, wind is forecast at 7-10 knots. I think they are going to want some shots of the RIB doing 30 knots! (you know the sort of thing, camera tracks across and up as boat streaks off into the distance!) When I flew off our boat I had all these fancy shots planned but I realised that I soon lost VLOS (mind you, we had both sails up). I ended up flying fpv until I heard it nearby. I’ve changed the Mini 2 to hover on loss of signal instead of RTH and I’m just doing some tests with Mavic floats. It’s a toss up between whether the loss in performance and batt life with the floats is worth the peace of mind knowing that I won’t lose the aircraft or the footage if I dunk it.
This was my first attempt a couple of years ago. I learned from bitter experience about SD card write speeds, all of the 4K stuff was unusable, this from the cache.

Looks Great ! well done :+1:

Thanks Jason

Keep an eye on the homepoint! Last thing you want is the drone going in the opposite direction when the battery runs low or if connection is lost. Update the homepoint as you go so there’s less distance, especially as the 500m limit is from the homepoint NOT where you are

Posted this here before but works very well….

Thanks Kevin.
If I’m using the Mavic 2 I will set home point to controller but if I’m using the Mini 2 I guess,as you say, I should just keep on updating it. Is that where the aircraft is or where the controller is?

I will also set it to hover on signal loss. Don’t want it deciding to land in the drink.

TBH I can’t remember. I often set to hover on loss of signal as I fly at NT Gardens, filming trees for them at the moment, so drone often under/in them!!

I’ve got a set of floats for my Mavic 2 Pro that I’ve never had the guts to use. Shipped them over from the states. Would be fine on quiet water but I think a wave might topple it into the drink. You’re welcome to try them :+1:

Otherwise, go have some fun. Sounds like you’re giving this loads of prep & thoughts :+1::+1::+1:.

I’ll check the footage out when I get home later, cheers

Excellent video Steve. I haven’t come across Spotlight Mode. Maybe it’s just on the Air.

I have floats too. I tried them today and it didn’t seem to affect the performance but I think the battery life was down a bit. I’m never going to try landing on water but it might mean I could at least recover it and the footage.

Lucky you! That’s what everybody want to do. Do you get paid for it too?

I’ve used it before on my 2pro and works really well.

Active track / spotlight / fly as you normally would :ok_hand:t4:

At the moment no. Building portfolio and also learning the way NT need the footage edited and other requirements. It’s a steep learning curve…. However it’s already got me another customer who is paying, so treating as an investment for future work

Sounds great Kevin. That’s how it all starts. I’m hoping this job will be the springboard to more.

@Aerialskape BTW, love your website!

I don’t quite understand Steve. For instance, if I wanted to take a shot alongside the boat, do you just fly forwards but the drone turns through 90° and flies sideways?

Thanks - work in progress

Maybe I’m misunderstanding but you’re not being paid to take photos & videos for the NT who would ban drones flying legally over their property if they could.

Taking the ****

It’s basically just a camera lock on the subject, draw the box or tap as you would in normal active track and when you perform normal flying the drone will stay locked on the subject performing I’ll the turns and camera tilts.

I’ve only played with it a couple times myself but seems really good and need to play more with it.

Skip to 1:15 in my video for another sample…

You can probably do this easily enough manually but I just like how smooth it is.

Superb! I must try it out. I hadn’t thought of using it for static subjects. I was “locked on” to thinking about moving subjects.
