First time drone user

Hi I’m new her but looking to buy my first drone, I live very close to two beaches and amazing costlines, I’ve seen some amazing videos of drone flights and would love to be able to do my own, I’m looking for something that won’t break the bank, but can record vid, take pics etc.

I know some drones cost thousands, but again I don’t want to break the back yet, just looking for something cheap ish but can do photos etc.

Thanks

We won’t know if it’ll break your bank if we don’t know how much you’re looking to spend, Phil

If you share your budget you’ll get lots of useful recommendations, rather than a bunch of useless suggestions

Where are you based?

Hi Phil @Phil48uk and welcome to GADC :+1: :+1:

Hi Phil - welcome to GADC :+1::+1::+1:

@Phil48uk - Phil, don’t get seduced by some of the very low priced drones or those massively promoted on social media. Almost invariably they are rubbish and will lead to tears before bedtime.

DJI are a recommended brand. They have a habit of bringing new models at around yearly intervals but the previous models are more than adequate for photos and video. If you can manage without the latest shiny, brand new in its box and correspondingly expensive then a DJI Mini 2 or Mini 3 will do you proud. They have most of the bells and whistles of the current Mini 4 but are rather cheaper to buy and, if you decide to sell after a couple of months you will probably get your money back.

The best way to buy if through our own for sale category, I have bought from other club members in the past and always been very happy with the transactions.

Hi pingspike good point, I’m looking at a budget and around £50-150 pound.

Cheers

Welcome Phil, we all have to start somewhere, buy what you believe to be the best within your budget, if all goes well and your enjoying the hobby, trade / move on up to the next level.

Not what you want to hear, but I really would recommend saving up and increasing your budget a little. Cheap drones are cheap for a reason and you will almost undoubtedly have to buy twice. I’m not trying to be a DJI fanboy but they sell more because they work (most of the time). They don’t normally fly off on their own, never to be seen again. Or worse, suddenly crash into a building or a group of people. Beware of the cheap drones and the claims from their adverts, some are not just misleading, they’re quite often downright lies. The controls are poor, the cameras are poor, the after sales backup/service will be poor, if it exists at all. Once crashed, through no fault of your own, you will not get your money back.
We are a massive online club with enthusiasts from every walk of life and skill level. If any of us had come accross a truelly worthwhile drone at that price range we would all be talking about it, but they just don’t exist. Keep an eye out in our for sale section, or maybe even post a wanted add in it. You might have to be patient and wait a wee while, but you could end up with something like THIS Mini2 Flymore Combo.
Sorry if I come accross as being negative, but I’d rather you didn’t waste your hard earn money. Have a look on the member map and see if there are any of us local to you, you might be able to wangle a test flight so you’ll know the extra cash is worth it.

Hi Phil

Might want to check what accessories are included. But you will need a fairly up to date smart phone to operate the above drone.

Just to be clear below £100 camera drone will end up on the bin.

At 200-350 quid its exponentially better drone with money after 350 still getting a better drone for your money. Then after that FPV is a money pit.

Welcome!

Nice find Brendan, I never really thought of checking CEX

It’s were I got my first camera drone.
Returns are good
It a small premium over flea-bay but the return to any shop makes it worth the value. Less risk than flea- bay 2bd hand.
