Flight near Hartside Top

Hello,

I am planning a flight near Hartside Top on the A686 and was wondering about low flying military aircraft. I believe it falls into an area of the RAF Low Flying System, but I am unable to tell precisely as the maps available aren’t very good.

Does anyone with knowledge of the area know if this is going to be a problem, and who do I contact from the RAF to inform them of the operation before I fly? I don’t think I need any specific permissions as there are no NOTAMs or FRZs, but I would rather let them know than have my drone obliterated mid-air!

Many thanks

Hi @M7OJA it looks as though you’re quite new here :wave:t2:

Why not nip over to the Introductions page, and say hello properly and tell us a bit about yourself. :+1:t2:

Which Hartside are you referring to?

If it’s the one in Penrith, according to Drone Scene you’re about 1.7km away from Spadeadam so no issues there, but Drone Scene is also showing an active NOTAM for tomorrow with 10x Cobra helicopters mooching around that neck of the woods

Hi @PingSpike, thanks for getting back to me.
Yes, I am planning on flying from the Hartside near Penrith. I looked on Altitude Angel and it showed the NOTAM. I am not planning on flying there for a couple of weeks and judging by the expiry date, that will not be an issue.

In my A2 CofC training I learned about the low flying system and that military aircraft operate around Cumbria at up to 250ft I believe, 100 for helicopters, so I wanted to check if there was a number I could call or someone to contact to verify on the day that I won’t end up in a collision.

Thanks
