Flying in EGR160

Looking for advice on flying mini 3pro in Bishops gate London. Has anybody successfully carried this out in egr160 please.

Thanks
Paul Deeman

Hi @DeemanWings and welcome to Grey Arrows :wave:t2:

Enlighten us, what’s “egr160”? :person_shrugging:t2:

Thanks Karl, looks like that answers both @DeemanWings 's question and my question

Hi Rich. In future, please use the search button
Sorry. Busy week at work

Sorry man, I really should have known better :pensive:

Drone assist. Post code is ec2n 3as

An inferior app with no support group

We recommend and fully support users of our very own DroneScene

I would agree. It hasn’t changed in all the time if been using it apart from some new symbols

Finally signed up as a member here and have been having a play with drone scene to get familiar with it.

I noticed something that caught my eye with regards to EGR160, I don’t know if something has changed or if my mind is playing tricks on me.

I am sure that when I have looked at this before the description had some specific wording that made it clear that it was allowable to fly a UAV here, did it not previously say “The flight of manned aircraft within this area is restricted.” or words to similar effect.

It now reads

Restricted Area
The flight of aircraft within this area is restricted in accordance with certain specified conditions.

Which is the exact same wording used for EGR157, EGR158 AND EGR159 etc. where UAV’s are definitely not allowed.

If I have got this wrong, where is it stated that flying a UAV in EGR160 is allowed? Do the CAA log changes to restriction zones and is it possible to view these with a timeline?

Moved your post to the thread that discusses EGR160 … since you probably meant EGR and not ERG?

There are several posts where EGR160 is mentioned …

OK, I see it. It is down in the remarks where it states this zone only applies to helicopters.

Except with the written permission of the Civil Aviation Authority a helicopter shall not fly over the Specified Area of Central London…

I could have sworn it was something much more obvious previously, but I can’t rule out it being a fault with my stupid brain. Either way, panic over.

Just a thought, but if you do fly in London you can write to the Met Police Film Unit and inform them of your flight. You’d then be issued with a DRONECAD which just means if somone calls the old bill would then know who it is.

Dan, the copper there is very nice, helpful and usually issues the Id the same or next day - week-ends excepted.
Email is: FilmUnit@met.police.uk

Separately, if it’s Bishopgate you want to fly, that’s EGR158 or 9 and that would fall under a Non Standard Flight. You can apply here:

Good luck with the flight

So I had a look at the Met Film Unit Guidelines. I’m sure this is aimed more at commercial / location filming (Movies/TV shows) than actual hobbyists.

This section in particular is not enforceable to hobbyists…

“Permissions to fly a drone, take off and land in a public place MUST be sought from the borough film office or Local Authority.”
