Flying in Whitby

Hi all, can I pick your brains??? Am off to Whitby to shoot some aerials of the town. Has anyone had any experience to say dont’ take off in such a such a spot or the officials are anti drone? That sort of thing.
Otherwise a good flying week-end to all!

Best place to start is our very own DroneScene, which includes a couple of member added locations in Whitby (if you find anymore of interest please add them)

Also a search for Whitby brought up lots of bedtime reading for you

Hi mate, there is a big field next to Whitby Abbey , I have flown from here with no problems. Suggest you take off from the corner furthest from the Abbey in the corner near the wall of the Church graveyard and cliff fence. I also recommend having a pint in the micro brewery up there, well sign posted. Good luck.

Hi Drifter, many thanks for your help - the weather this evening in Whitby was glorious… and perfect for flying. But… no time to do the Abbey shots today so, fingers crossed for tomorrow morning. I’ll start off on the southern pier and then walk up to the abbey to where you suggested and hopefully the weather will be ok. Am working so the microbrewery, although thirst-quenchingly tempting will have to wait for another time. We did get into the Magpie tonight for supper though which was a treat!

The Lord may strike me down, but I’d never heard of Whitby before. In my defense I’ve lived abroad for 20 years so from 19 to forty I was away - but it’s a lovely place and I’d love more time to explore. Before I sign off - RAF Fylingdales: I’d heard of it as drones don’t fly that well around it. But I’d never seen it - Jeez Marie it’s like something out of Star Wars! Apparently it’s unique too…

Many thanks again for your tips.
