Yes that was him
He flew the helicopter over her house and zoomed in from 1 mile away with the zoom on the helicopter yet he wasnât using the helicopter for an active duty
If youâre going to do that shit with a helicopter use whisper mode
If youâre doing it with a drone use noise reducing blades
So Iâm told.
Never mind flying over churches how about this
Fun fact. Whisper mode was real and fitted to a pair of H500s

Oh so very old. If Iâm out & about and needing the services of my observer not only does he wear a Hi-viz vest he puts the JAFO hat on or he doesnât get his tenner
I would have never thought of this idea at all.
But does the person in the box not count as uninvolved?
I sent that link to my family, and go this gif back with a comment âWell, I wonât be looking up at drones anymoreâ
My thoughts on this are much like everyone elseâs - generally I wouldnât film them if there was any sort of event going on in or around the church, or any number of people obviously wanting some quiet time in the grounds. But if they are empty, and isolated, as so many country churches often are then I reckon theyâre probably fair game, though Iâll ask first if I have the opportunity.
Greater dilemmas await when I want to film in arguably the most picturesque and filmic cemetary we have down here in the south, which would be Brookwood and all its epic statuary / vault-work on both the public and military sides. Canât be done though, as far as I can tell, as it lies just inside Class D airspace for Farnborough CTR1. I wonder if I couldnât get a 100 ft max altitude clearance tho
Class D aerospace is irrelevant to UAV flights
Yes, I am investigating further here. The Drone scene map shows that as being very much in a red zone, and defines that as Class D airspaceâŚ
However, over on DroneSafetyMap.com, which is where I go to check actual flight restrictions and notams, I see Brookwood is suspiciously clear of red areas, thusly, and only has yellow ground hazards and some exclamation marks, thuslyâŚ
So I guess my question is, if that doesnât affect us, a) is it a no-fly zone for any reason for DJI UAVs, and b) if itâs not relevant to us, why is it showing on our dronescene map ?!
Turn off the Class D layer. It has no consequence on drone flying.
Itâs a legacy thing from many (many) years ago
As mentioned elsewhere, it has been removed from the next version of Drone Scene.
I suspect my plans might be scuppered there anyway - any sort of filming requires specific permission from the Cemetery Manager, who is an unknown quantity to me, but I imagine he would find it fabulously easy to just say no
Well it doesnât really.
He is not in control of the airspace (which we now establish is clear to fly in)
Sure, I get that it might be fine legally (though TOAL from outside the site would be very awkward), but I would feel uncomfortable flying low here, as I would have to be to adequately capture the statuary, and especially over the military side, if I didnât have their blessing to do it. I guess I would allow myself to be scuppered because I would respect their reasons for disapproving. If I am honest the monuments there do kinda lend themselves more to ground-based video than than aerial stuff, with the exception of the military side, which looks epic, even from afar.
