Flying within Birmingham Airport FRZ

Hi

I have been a land surveyor since the 1980s & in the last 4 1/2 years have been a drone pilot carrying out survey grade orthomosaics and photogrammetry, and recently LiDAR with the Matrice 350 & 400 and L2 & L3 scanners.
The other week took me to a site just outside the perimeter of Birmingham Airport & about 500m from the runway, for a series of short flights to collect photographic data.
All the NATS and permissions were applied and approved, risk assessments & method statements filled out & finally permission on the day from The air traffic control (who were immensely helpful).
After the first mission of about 10 mins, on returning to my home position, while the drone was in the air, I thought “Why Not” and took about 10 photos of the airport & control tower - as I’m highly unlikely to fly there again (I’m retiring next month!)
It just goes to show you can fly anywhere with the correct permissions and reasons for flying.
Happy Flying!
