Foam Glider Conversion (Question thread)

Ok another question for @Steviegeek and @notveryprettyboy . How do you control servos from a flight controller?

Its in bf or inav. Esc takes pwm, same as servos. So you put the signal wire on the fc where the esc went. The power for the servo should be a bec. But mine is direct on 2s.

Also, a tbs nano can be mapped to have 4 pwm outputs, so a nano rx can drive 2 esc and 2 servo no problems. No need for an fc

Cool… looks like I’m sorted for those then.

I have a couple of the larger ones in the garage - 860mm wingspan - Lidl have them in a couple of times a year for about a fiver. I put a reciever and servos in one a couple of years back in an attempt to make it a motorless glider/slope soarer, but I don’t really have suitable locations round here for that.

I’ve got two more still in the box - I should really come up with a plan, although I’ve been trying to think of something a little more creative than just another FPV/LOS plane :man_shrugging:

I’ve heard of these, they seem to be a bit of a legend on some forums.
I think Pawel, he of INAV fame, loves them.

I’m sure Karl @notveryprettyboy would love to get his hands on one, do you know what time of the year LIDL have them in?

I don’t know, but there is a Lidl Glider FB group where all the nerds hang out and seem to know when they’re coming around.

Looks like maybe April/May time?

Hello folks in far flung lands (we are a global group afterall).

This is a message for more recent members (and especially Kamal) who might be wondering how to obtain the Lidl glider. Apologies to the main membership who are already familiar with the product.

Lidl is the name of a German discount supermarket store which operates in many European and other main world areas such as the States and Australia, to name but two.

Lidl features limited offer ā€œspecial buysā€ which cover many and varied items. One of these is the Lidl children’s glider. This and other items only feature in store at specific times of the year and limited by stock in store, and this varies by country. For 2021, the gliders have been and gone. For 2022, I don’t expect to see them in the northern hemisphere until spring, around April/May time.

So, in the meantime for similar gliders you may need to source them from the likes of Bangood.

If you search this group, you will find reference to gliders that others have sourced. Kamal, hope that helps and explains the situation.

Also, lots of inspiration for weird and wonderfule builds and conversion in that group :point_up_2:

They are available in blue and yellow. I got the yellow one as I find this colour more easy to see. They are in two sizes, I got the larger one cost just under £6 on eBay

4 foam gliders complete with LEDs arrived this morning.

I know @Steviegeek is doing the rear flap a different way, but this is how I’ve done it. It hasn’t been fully tested, but it goes up and down, left and right in the garden.
I may scale the throttle in my tx as its way overpowered.

I do like your elevator…

However I also rather like the single servo ailerons.

Where did your 3d prints come from? links to stls?

My Zohd Nano Talon Evo does much the same thing.

Did them myself. Printed in tpu, and glued on. For thfs motors…

It’ll be interesting to see how everyone’s will turn out and fly’s the best. I have robbed a spare one from my misses’s work in case I need to rebuild.
