This was not easy, I did my homework about the safety of this location on Friday before travelling to it on Sunday, but when I got here, to my surprise, there was another “aerial event” going on, and that was 30 - 50 motorised gliders flying above me. and the Drone Angel app said “temporary event - no drone flying”
I was about to give up and go back home, and I thought my bad, I’ll just get the drone up, making sure to keep it low and away from those bloody things flying above me, also managed not to get any of them in the way of my video. “He who dares…”
The problem is, there are no fly zones for a reason and just taking off is not great. Thats what makes it difficult for other drone users. People will say, typical, a drone user ignored the no fly zone. That looks bad on us all. If it was a long drive and yiu did not to waste it why not just approach them and say, “really sorry i messed up here and din not realise you were here, would you mind if i got a quick video”. One conversation would lead to a tes or no but at least mean that they would have respected a dtone operator. A single persons actions can massivly alter people perception of drones. It only takes one social media post to get passed on enough
Again you are making an assumption without knowing the facts. On that hill near the Martello Tower no.3 there is a costguard station with a radar, I pressed the buzzer to gain access to their office and asked permission to have a low flight around the Martello tower, the man saw my CAA credentials, and insurance and said Sir as long as you don’t crash your drone on our radar mast and keep away from it, you are most welcome and be wary of those gliders which are about 150-200 metres above us.
So that’s what I did for the duration of 6 minutes only.
Of course I did not know the facts. You never mentioned this.
However you did say…
If I said that I jumped out of a plane with no parachute and did not even get a scratch, would people believe me. Probably not.
If I said I jumped out of a plane that was on the ground and there was a big crash mat that was as high as the door and I did not get a scratch you are going to believe me.
I would kindly say that to avoid this then all you have to do is state all the facts. Also “again you are making an assumption”. When did i first do it.
Was he aware of a no fly zone.
Happy flying but in my eyes, if a see a No Fly Zone I do understand that and if I was running an event and took time to get a No Fly Zone in place I would hope that all would respect that. I also think that a No Fly Zone takes priority over some guy in a coast guard tower saying, go for it but be careful. In my eyes you asked the wrong people, I would have asked the people who set it up.
Everyone to their own. Good luck with what you do. Be happy, Be nice. All the best.
