FPV addiction 🫣

Hi Guys

It’s a bit of a complaint really! I’ve been quietly flying my air 2s and mini 3pro for a couple of years now (when weather and wife allow it!) then around 8 months ago I decided to treat myself to an Avata 2, which in normal and sport mode was a lot of fun for someone of my age and experience! But then I wanted more……….. so I started using it in manual WOW now this was definitely way outside my comfort zone! And I loved it, and now I’m totally hooked, having now bought a 5” Diatone 200gts, then a pavo20 pro 03, and now I’ve just ordered a speedybee master 3x 04 :woozy_face:

So what’s the complaint I hear you cry!! Well how comes NOBODY WARNED ME how addictive this is :rofl:

My wife has now confiscated my bank card

Welcome to the dark side @Jimpb. It happens to nearly all that try fpv from the camera side of the hobby, myself included.

I now have around 14 drones of various shapes, sizes and applications.
Have spent way more than i’d tell my partner on them and frequently have lots of parcels arrive shortly after pay day.

Glad you have found your tribe!

The addiction is a very slippery slope

The forum has a very powerful search function, if only you’d searched for FPV and wallet or FPV and addicted. You definitely would of found the answer you seek! Welcome to the endless money pit that is FPV. Enjoy your stay

Similar to yourself.

I started my journey with the Mini 2 (3 years ago), upgraded to the Mini 3 Pro (2 years ago), then in May 2024 I purchased the Avata 2.

Since then I’ve sold the Mini 3 Pro, it’s just sat gathering dust and purchased 5 other FPV drones (DJI Neo, BetaFPV Pavo Femto, BetaFPV Meteor 75 Pro, SpeedyBee Bee25, GepRC Vapor D5 5”)

FPV is more addictive than Class A narcotics ( I’ve ever tried them ), and probably just as expensive :rofl:

What do you guys use the multiple FPV drones for, out of interest? I currently have a Mini 4 Pro (gifted to my brother) and a Mavic 4 Pro.

Depends on location / mood / weather.. and probs some other stuff too.

My 2 current faves - 5" for speed / long range and 2" for cinewhoop cruising / bando exploring (abandonded buildings are some of my favourite spots tbh!) I also have a 3" freestyle drone but that (predictably!) needs some tlc atm… as is par for the course with freestyle drones.

For me (and I believe for most) it all starts with an interest into piloting - starting with the freedom sensation of just cruising but also going as close/quick to obstacles, hitting gaps / gates, learning acrobatic moves,…
Whoops, toothpicks, acro drones, racing drones, high speed drones, long range drones,…of various sizes all all offer some quite interesting and different challenges and if you are happy building them (arguably nearly a hobby of its own) you can do some pretty wild stuff too - I now have bits of a 13" X-Class racing drone on my bench

Oh fella, it’s like all I seem to do is make excuses to myself as to why I need another one :rofl:

Bugger! Really should have done more research :rofl:

I can see the attraction. I do suspect, however, that once starts seeing this as more of a game than a real world experience flying an object so piloting can get quite reckless.

I guess why that’s you guys tend to pick places that have been abandoned with near zero risk of someone getting anywhere close.

Different size quads have different flying characteristics. 1S & 2S tiny whoops for steady short distance exploring. 4S - 6S for speed, longer distance and freestyle (power loops, dives, rolls, etc…)

It is a balance to strike - even if you are not doing the flying, smashing your drone has real life consequences - for most of us at least  (hence why we highly recommend spending loads of time in sims as the piloting and the use of the controller can take some time to get used to).

Use whichever isn’t broken :man_shrugging:
