Hahaha just saw the price @DeanoG60
personally Iād avoid stuff like that on ebay as it will most likely be some guy in his garage with a carbon cutter just cutting out shapes and claiming it to be a quad frame.
Unbranded tat from ebay will likely end up in a bad experience all round.
the source one frame that @Steviegeek linked to will be a perfect frame to start its strong well built and has low vibrations as its nice and rigid and its cheaper than the ebay tat.
So start with something incapable of killing you if you get it wrong. So an 85mm whoop or in days gone by I would have said grab a Flea from UMT and put it on a 2.5" frame. But start with something small and learn how to fly. Analogue, digital, are irrelevant when you start. Learn to fly and spend the least amount possible. Build something cheap to repair. Everything on a 5" is expensive, when you break it (and you will break it) it will cost you lots to fix it, so you should factor in not being able to fly for months on end because you canāt afford those Ā£20 motors, or a new arm that might cost you Ā£20.
Unless this is bank of dad level and your dad is going to fund the whole operation including all the parts you will need when you wreck it.
So if you break some digital part, say for instance you crashed into a wall and broke your vtx, thatās Ā£100 straight up. New 2207 motor, Ā£20 minimum. New 4-6S Lipo, Ā£20-40 and the list goes on.
When you can fly well on a 1-2S quad, then go up to something bigger, heavier, more likely to kill yourself or other people. Until then use common sense, unless of course you were born without it, in which case do whatever you want, but any consequences are yours alone to deal with. And you definitely need PLI.
A bit of a harsh way to talk to a kid, and some nice discouraging words, no matter how well intentioned.
Yes, starting small makes a lot of sense, but itās not the only way, and flying a larger machine doesnāt necessarily mean youāre going to kill someone.
Thats a proper dick thing to say to a young kid
Would actually say the larger the quad, the more resilient it is, esp landing impact, etc, etc. Itās throttle thatās hard to master, and the control you have over a tiny whoop etc, and the power to get out of āissuesā is harder! So a 3.5/5inch frame would be a great startā¦ And come onā¦ no oneās ever been killed by a 5inch quadcopter! ever! Nice open field with his encouraging dad there, yeah, he might break things, but an all in one board, compared to a stack on a 5 inch would be cheaper to repair, and what does an Eco II cost compared to a 2S toothpick motor (sod all Iād imagine, I mean top of the line 5 inch motors, Ā£20, and you aināt gonna kill motors easy on an open field where Iād recommend first practise), and the frame will be harder too and survive the inevitable crash (he will crash, we all crashā¦)
Totally agree with both of the above
Having met @sachasb at the big meet, heāll be dropping rubix cubes and trippy spins before he even knows it! the kids got balls of steel! (I seen him on that electric bike!)
wellā¦ you say thatā¦ if you know you knowā¦
Good job Iām not back rolling this then. But i will be reigning him in.
Sorry it was kind of harsh. In some ways I mentioned it due to recent events in Cardiff. The parents blamed everyone except the two people riding an illegal bike on a road without PPE and at illegal speeds. The only people to blame for the incident, were the people riding illegally on the road and age is irrelevant. The law as many like to state on here is pretty much absolute. It doesnāt care if you are 10 or 20 or 80.
So yes I accept it was harsh. But so is life. If you can accept that anything you do that results in something unfortunate happening will be laid squarely at your feet and the only person to blame is you, then go for it. That can be anything from driving a car or motorcycle to running across a road in traffic. We all do this when we get behind the wheel of a car, maybe go a few mph over the speed limit, or pick up your quad and go fly it in a public place.
But apologies for being a dick.
Also for the record these videos came to mind. Probably wouldnāt have killed the woman in the first one, but it was pretty close. The second one is a reminder to keep your fingers away from spinning props on the bigger craft. Getting a finger chewed on a 2" is bad enough.
Apologies on behalf of @sachasb accepted, i didnāt read it in the context the others did ( having nearly killed @notveryprettyboy Karl at the first big meet with a 680mm Tarot ) and i agree with your sentiments of if you do the crime expect consequences.
Sacha is no angel, but he is generally a good kid.
Hey Sasha
Iāll donate an AKK Race Ranger VTX, a decent camera to suit and an antenna for your āfirst buildā project
Itās only analogue, quality analogue, but it will get you in the air
I might have a set of motors spare as well but it means a walk to the workshop to checkā¦ watch this space.
Perhaps others will chip in as well
Thank you so much this should help loads thanks again @Steviegeek
Well lets hope @sachasb doesnāt maiden over a car show with an X-Class.
And I still stand 100% by a 3.5 or 5 inch is easier to learn than a smaller less powerful quad, as itās more stable, itāll survive impact better, and can deal with breeze, etc, etc better.
Nice open space with his dad (as a spotter is obviously required for FPV to be legal), heāll be fine with a 3.5.
Iām not saying buy an x class (13 inch props, though itās the easiest non DJI quad Iāve ever landed by a country mile).
Damn thatās kind Stevie. Was going to offer some HDZero parts, but youāve already offered an upgrade to that
I donāt really have anything spare thatād be of use. One motor of different sizesā¦ I do think the Darwin baby ape is a good call. My 3.5 inch is one of my fave quads to fly!
Also get a controller as soon as and get some SIM time in (in acro of course)
Actually just remembered I have some E800Dās they mroe than welcome to have. Only issue is they donāt charge as I broke the usb input or the barrel input (canāt remember, been well over a year since looked at em), but I bet they easily fixed. And they aināt bad they just HUGE! I bet I (or @stevesb or @Steviegeek ) could fix that easy. You are more than welcome to them. Will dig em out in a bit!
There ya go, you got the video side of things sorted! Now buy a boxer, lol! And mow the lawn and wash the car for your dad 100 times a day @sachasb
these are them (though I think mine are a ācopyā), werenāt bad TBH, but bulky! Also you can remove the goggles and use the screen as a screen!
Thatād be great.
Dunno why, but think of Ethan FPV with this!
