In the distant past of two weeks ago, I’d accompany my son when he went FPVing to act as spotter, sometimes taking one of my DJIs to video him flying ( I’d ‘park’ it somewhere out of the way so I could keep an eye out for him ).
Now I’ve taken up FPV, we take turns flying and spot for each other 
I’m going to be stuck though when he moves away for a post-doc job

I remember flying gliders at the local R/C club, where we had a winch made of a car starter motor, a foot button, and a return pulley some distance away. We’d stand by the winchbox and launch our gliders, which would leave the parachute on the hook half way towards the return pulley some 100m away. We’d pay the local kids some money and lunch at the club to run and fetch the parachute for us, and we called them fetchemites.
