Friar Gate Bridge Derbyshire - with a few other videos

Ive used dolly zoom in this video, first time Ive had a go with it, very interesting effect you get pulling away from something and yet the item in the distance gets bigger.
Hope you like my little video showing Friar Gate Bridge, this is how it looks on June 1st 2025. That footage inside the arch at 01:35 is the last ever video of that as they demolished that arch the next day !

I wanted slow motion backwards footage and as this is a busy road normally I flew this very early on a Sunday morning before there were any cars about and in a location where I can see the traffic fully. This is a one way street so flying forward meant if something did come I could get out the way. I then reversed all the footage and changed all of it from 60fps to 30fps, then edited it all to line up with jump-cuts on each peak of the music.

Are they demolishing the bridge as well ? Kinda mad the bridge that goes nowhere with a building smack bang at the end, where is it .

Edit : good bit of history there, British rail also sold it to the council for ÂŁ1 !

I doubt whether the Friargate bridge will be demolished. But never say never. The council were quick to partly demolish the Hippodrome theatre after the last fire there, claiming it was unsafe. If you look at Andy’s video on the demolition, you’ll see them knocking down walls about 3-4ft thick, solid brickwork. I’m sure no structural engineer would have declared a wall as solidly built as that “unsafe”:wink:

No, thats not the plan, its just waiting for a use and now the large site to the left is being repurposed then hopefully things can progress.

Yes I started the petition in 2007 to get the bridge restored, I was also a trustee of Friends of Friargate bridge and I also run a dedicated blog to the work of Andrew Handyside here

Thanks, yes first time Ive had a go at doing that and amazed by good it looks. Have a go yourself.

Deffo not being demolished and at least this listed building cant burn down like other things.
Yes, The Hippodrome was well built but didnt stand a chance with this thing ripping it apart.

I did watch it,
I’ll have to watch it again I must have missed it :face_with_monocle:

Ah ok I’m with ya, I’ve always had a fascination with old bridges & alike more so from the days I remember going into London, just love that old rustic sooted filthy look ( fascination not fetish  ) I start to think what it must have been like years ago I love the old architecture.

Yes me too love architecture.
I did this bridge with my drone 4 years ago, its quite a basic bridge but its made by the same company who made Friargate bridge
