Yep, it does look rather grainy. Almost like it was taken at night with the iso turned up 
( unless that’s the look markful was looking for ?

Joking aside, maybe that’s why they use the terminology render in photo / video editing so you can add a concrete effect
They’re only representations of the photos so you know who submitted what for the vote. If you want to see the decent uploads for comparing those in the running so-to-speak tap on the pics above the poll. 
You beat me to it! The thumbnails in the poll are only 690 pixels wide as against the 5000 or so of the original picture. Depending on the software used to create those thumbnails loss of quality is almost certainly inevitable. I’m wondering if it some kind of moire effect?

Sorry guys, don’t know what’s went wrong here. I have used the same software for this challenge the last two years. The first few rounds had goofed up colours as the software was set to use its own colour management, but since that was fixed nothing has changed. Only thing I can think of is an automatic update that has messed things up. I will check and try running your images through it again. I can not edit the poll once someone has cast a vote, so we can either do as suggested and look at the originals to decide where we place our votes. Or I can do a new poll?

Glad to see I was the cause of so much comment, though maybe not in the way I may have preferred! 
I was playing around with the edit and decided to go with the bleak look, but as has been pointed out the thumbnails did it no favours!
