GADC 4th Birthday Challenge

That was one of mine , I see them everyday sometimes in lines of 4 and more

Yeah, thank you Chris!

The depot local to me, Southampton, closed down. Seeing one on the road let alone two never happened. I still very rarely see one on my travels in the South East.

Probably not middle class enough. Should have called himself Edward Stobart Esq. Then he would be allowed south of the M4

All the things I put in the challenge were all local to me, Stobart looks after the Tesco distribution 3 miles away, and they also deliver BioMass to Drax 24/7.

I think of you all when the dog cocks his leg on the neighbours Monkey Puzzle tree ;o)

And as for repurposed coalmine. In Hampshire?

Loads of them round me ;o)

Repurposed quarry. I took the family on a special trip to North Wales to get that one!

And those fucking monkey puzzle trees

This is not an entry for the Challenge*

Short video behind the background in finding 8 axle mobile crane in middle of farmer’s field.

I was doing a flight to have a look around Flixborough Wharf for large cranes. Just put my drone up when those words nobody wants to hear “Can I have a word with you". Somebody walked over to me. I was in luck someone that wanted to know something about drones. Some 5 minutes later having done my sales pitch recommending DJI Mini 2 I happen to mention I was looking for a large crane to photograph.

Quite by chance he said " There is a big one in the field over there I have just walked my dog in the field”.

I put my drone up and found a crane, erecting, another crane alongside a wind turbine. Set off on foot to investigate. Stopped to speak to another dog walker called Jill who drove me to the base of the wind turbine were they were erecting the crane. On speaking to the driver I had struck lucky as it was an 8 axle crane. He confirmed they were changing the bearing and expect to be leaving site Tuesday

Struck lucky again as Jill lived nearby and could see the site from her house so I was able to get updates. The site being 38 Miles from my house. Ended up doing 3 trips to site in total

Wednesday morning, all came together after short wait. Had to jump out in front to the escort vehicle and ask the take the shot. Driver was happy to arrange for the crane to close the gap between both vehicles. He even gave me his business card. Copy of the video has been sent to all that have helped me.

Keep looking there are large cranes out there to be found. Thanks for the committee for putting really good challenge together. The crane was one on the list I thought I wouldn’t get.

Great story John

We knew that the mobile crane was a difficult subject if you wanted all the bonus points, much easier if you were prepared to sacrifice a couple of bonuses to add something to your score. It just goes to show what being polite when people approach, investigating opportunities, chatting to various people, planning and a slice of luck can achieve!

Which golfer was it who said when told he was lucky:“And the more I practice, the luckier I get” ?

Thank you, Andy. The museum looks like a worthwhile place to visit for anyone interested in WW2 aviation.

We are occasionally amazed at the talents that our contributors display. With regard to your graphic skills, this was not one of those occasi9ons

Nevertheless - 4 points

P.S. I thought this would have been an easy one. It has taken 4 days visiting at 6am, 7am and 8am to achieve this. This morning alone I went through 3 batteries hovering at 60m  And still not happy with it.

I’m enjoying the back seat, some excellent entries this year

Taken at Coltishall Lock in Norfolk, today at 12.00.

As good as I’m going to get for this entry I’m afraid. Bloody Norfolk Broads boasting about their miles and miles of lockless waterways… :man_facepalming:

Love this story John and even better when members of the public and employees are on board. Well done. Proving sometimes it’s just easier to ask. Mostly not. But sometimes.

Fantastic story behind a brilliant entry. Goes to show that planning and networking can go a long way!

Can’t say I’d make a habit of this though. I’m all for bonus points, but jumping in front of traffic seems a bridge too far…
