Gibside Hall

another try at some video and a follow-up to the previous Monument video…

Not up to Hogwarts standard, but a magical place none the less - used to play in and around these ruins when I was a mere lad, many moons ago…lol

A now derelict 1603-20 country house with later additions and alterations which was abandoned in the 1920’s

Part of the Gibside estate, to which the late Queen Mother had close links.

Such a shame these places were allowed to fall into decay.

FYI - the site is managed by the NT

Silky smooth video. Nice one. :ok_hand:

Really nice video, as kids we would play there but in those days no one was allowed near the place so we had to wade across the river to get there. Bit dodgy at times though especially after heavy rain.

Could be a great hotel location , are the grounds still open/managed ….at least the pigeons are enjoying it

thanks Colin, appreciate the feedback - just waiting for the heatwave that’s forecast…lol

@Rusty21 thanks David - yep, that’s what we had to do too. Always down by the river, used to swim at the ‘High Rocks’
Can’t get down there now, all the paths are overgrown with brambles & nettles, kids must just sit at home now…lol

@Sandbagger - Hi Alan, yes still open to the public but ran by the NT, so there is no access to the Hall itself and the Orangery is off-limits as they are upgrading the footpaths. The gardens, chapel and monument are still accessible to paying visitors or members.
I flew on an evening when the place was closed to avoid any vistors.
