Gongoozling & Droning around Braunston, Northamptonshire

Brian @bonneville and I met up for a flying session around this intriguing bit of Northamptonsire, actually on the border with Warwickshire.

A Gongoozler is ‘is a person who enjoys watching activity on the canals of the United Kingdom. The term is also used more generally to describe those who harbour an interest in canals and canal life, but do not actively participate.’

But what we also have here is two lost villages, two dismantled railways, a couple of interesting churches and a rude-looking windmill with no sails. And that’s before you contemplate the junctions of the Grand Union and Oxford canals and the nearby Braunston Marina.

Google Maps promised a cafe, the Gongoozler’s Rest, at the Marina but it wasn’t there. However, the Boat House pub offers grub and a canalside setting for a beer. Pretty much everything good for a quiet day out came together here - highly commended.

Lovely video, brought back some memories when we took a little narrow boat all around there and exploring Braunston itself.

Nice one Howard and thank you for putting in the work on the video. We need to stress that we weren’t both auditioning for a Charlie Chaplin remake (and my flying isn’t quite so erratic) as seen at 1:20

I wonder if the Mods will label this as a GADC Mini Meet. It was certainly a great day and what recreational flying is about. :+1:

Had you announced it the meets section a few more might have turned up

Even if there were just the 2 of you after that , meet badges would have been granted.
