This morning I was flying my drone to take some Arial photos of the fields behind where I work as a new bypass is due to be started in the next few months. I met 2 groups of walkers who like to walk through these fields and are upset that they (the fields) will soon be gone. Both groups thought it was a good idea to record how the countryside will change over the next year or so as urbanisation is spreading into green belt land. This is my first encounter with Gen public whilst flying and after hearing some horror stories it was a pleasant surprise.
Good to hear, i have had more people ask about the drone and a few Karens/Kens, just brush them off, well off is one of the words ![]()
They’re not all bad @abt ![]()
I have been flying over some fields at the end of my road, recording the loss of farmland to housing development. Mini 4 pro doing a way point every week. Word has spread via my neighbour, and others are asking to be posted the footage as it goes along. I intend when finalised to share it with the local press and the protest groups that tried so hard to block it.
I have had quite a few people come up to me and ask what I’m doing. All of them have been very positive. They are usually quite surprised as they don’t even know the drone is there until I reduce altitude to let them see it.
I’ll be honest and say in my 3/4 years of flying, I’m yet to have a negative interaction. I get approached by many people at my regular flying location with many looking to purchase their first drone.
It’s all about how you as a flyer engage with people as well… If somebody is a little doubtful and ill informed, send them on their way with the knowledge you have gained about drones and the rules rules surrounding them. Always remember we are ambassadors to this great hobby. ![]()
Hi @PeterA, it looks as though you’re quite new here ![]()
Why not nip over to the Introductions page, and say hello properly and tell us a bit about yourself. ![]()
That’s been my experience too. Maybe it’s the areas in which I fly - fairly open and used by walkers and dog owners but having said that, with my Mini 4 Pro being very quick to get flying and legal in all areas I am flying more amore in urban areas and still with the same result, people show interest and stop for a chat.
I think part of it is how you present yourself. If you stand, confident in your right to be there, people sense that. One thing I often do is to turn the drone to look at me and the interested party so they can see themselves - and wave at the drone!
