I’ll update the site soon and point at your post if you don’t mind, unless you’re publishing it elsewhere
Edit: have made an FOI request based on the origin of the proposal with the aim of getting them to actually provide decent evidence before trying any further regulation
Hi, please feel free to link to it, no problem at all!
Your FoI will be interesting, I’d like to know what the impetus was to ban an activity that had caused 0 police / council recorded complaints in 5 years.
Well done. This was genuinely crap from the onset when I read the story on the BBC that specifically mentioned why they were proposing this:
"Councillor Emma Daniel, cabinet member for children, families and youth services, said: “We are having to think about how we legislate for new technology. Drones can be intrusive and dangerous if not flown with care.”
A report to the cabinet said there was a history of drones being an issue and unsafe around children’s playgrounds and recreation areas, the Local Democracy Reporting Service said."
Brilliant work for the hobby, Thanks to Grey Arrows and all who got stuck in on our behalf, who requested information, which proved the whole thing to be unfounded. This reminded one council that they manage the land for the public and don’t own it.
Perhaps since the lockdown, Councils have become more dominating, too willing to apply PSPO’s and begin to make more and more “rules” without examining the information. They appear to quickly react to unknowing peoples imagination and “What if’'s”, without actually examining the situation and gathering sufficient evidence.
I hope this motivates others who are being unfairly excluded from public paces to take action on behalf of themselves and the public by pushing councils to do their job for us (Not just drone hobbyists). Council employees don’t change with local governments, they need to change their thinking!
