As do I, using Blackpool airports weather station.
I find UAV forecast pretty much useless, way inaccurate.
I have had my air 3s up in 40+ mph winds before, I have only had the strong wind warning once. They take way more than 24mph that’s for sure ![]()
I use a relatively new app, UAV Assistant, but I don’t rely on it. Where I live is sheltered compared to the nuclear end of town and wind speeds noticeably less than the forecast (I’ve checked at ground level a few times with an anemometer).
Flown my Atom 2 enough to know what wind speeds are OK for it and what I’m comfortable with.

I normally assess the area I’m in and look around at trees and judge from that and use commonsense and watching the speeds and allow for RTH keeping it reasonably close and if needs to land before my homepoint I have pre-plan landing spots in my head, i think I’m more alert of weather then some here as literally one-third of the county is covered by lakes and which ever way I fly I will definitely come across lakes rivers forests and real dense areas impossible to walk through.
A member here @ianinlondon does real wind test on all his drones which give you a much clearer idea of what it can tackle.
I don’t use the anemometer as a check, I used it to get an idea myself of actual windspeeds so now I have a better idea when I’m stood in a 25mph wind.
This is who I use… They have a number of locations around the UK.
This one has quite a few more stations. PWS Network Overview | Weather Underground. Upwards of 400 weather stations just for the UK (250000 globally). WeatherFile has only 137.
Most are realt-time though. Might be some transient issue for the one you’re looking at.
The one nearest to me:

Even the wind direction is almost 90 degrees out.
I am not sure I understand what you’re comparing it with (the picture you shared says “Mavic”, is it from a drone?). Unless you’re standing right next to the station in question, the differences can, of course, at times be significant due to terrain and other local conditions. This is always the case for all weather stations, though.
Nearest station it shows for me is over 7 miles away and is telling me the gust at present is only 1mph! Thanks but I’ll be avoiding that inaccurate site.
What I’m comparing is ..
- My weather station - called “Mavic” - a rather accurate one on a pole above my house for good wind readings.
- The smaller image is what Wunderground shows for the same weather station linked to them.
Ergo - Wunderground is incorrectly reporting the same data source - my weather station.
Readings on my weather station compare very closely to those of Southampton Airport’s weather station that’s just 500m away from me.
The biggest reason to ignore Wunderground is because any tom-dick-harry can link any form of weather station to them .. and you have zero idea where it’s located. Most are “in the garden” and wind it seriously understated and inaccurate.
I see. What time does it say for “last updated at”? This clearly seems like something’s gone wrong, unless it was updated a while ago.
Of course, as with anything, one has to use common sense and consult multiple sources. PWS Network also contains professional stations (e.g. airports and such), not just personal stations.
Gosh - it just showed an 11mph on Wunderground .. so about 50% of reality. ![]()
Well, I think that shows that its configuration with PWSN is misconfigured, rather than necessarily anything about the site. I’ve just checked a few professional ones nearby (airports), and they match exactly both on their sites and PWSN.
Certainly, one should use multiple sources.
