Gwylfa Hiraethog - Added to Historic Buildings in Conwy, Wales

I have just added this to the map of places to fly your drone at Drone Scene:

Once the highest inhabited house in Wales, Geylfa Hiraethog was an 11 bedroom hunting lodge for the 1st viscount Devonport in the early 20th century.

Over time, as motor vehicles became more popular the need to stay in a remote lodge to shoot birds reduced so the building gradually decayed to the pile of rubble remaining today

In summer Gwylfa Hiraethog is surrounded by vibrant heather, in winter it stands on a bleak, frozen moor with almost no tree cover to break up the biting wind

The originator declared that this location was not inside a Flight Restriction Zone at the time of being flown on 24/09/2026. It remains the responsibility of any pilot to check for any changes before flying at the same location. Landowner permission may be required before taking off.

Wow, would have been a long way to fetch a morning paper!!

Two minute walk to the nearest pub though :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

Sportsman’s arms (now sadly closed and turned into a house) used to be the highest inn in wales, right at the bottom of the farm track up to the lodge
