I recently visited Kelvedon Hatch nuclear bunker in Essex which would have been home to Central Government during such a crisis.
These places are a worthy visit. ![]()
There are probably lots of still secret, active bunkers around the country.
It’s a stark reminder of the tightrope that was being walked during the Cold War.
great video - I have visited this one many many years ago - should go and see it again
Bletchley Park is also very well worth a visit
Thanks for watching.
I definitely must visit Bletchley Park, if I’m ever down that way.
Its a great day out and quite a fair bit to see there - also another one I have not been to in a very very long time - I should really go there again too as when I was last there I could not get to see Station X and being a radio Ham I was a little disappointed by that. But I think you can now see it as they were in the process of refurbing it when I was there like 15 or so years ago.
we bought 2 of the x ROC Nuclear bunkers , sold 1 due to hassle we had with adjacent land owner but still have 1 . it featured in a bbc program was interesting speaking to some of the x roc that served and what there duties was
would agree with Bletchley do the guided tour the tour guide we had made the visit
Good to know, thanks.
Top tip - if you do go, go early (doors open 0930hrs). Two reasons, firstly car parks fill up rapido, and secondly you can grab a cuppa in the cafe before it gets busy. Entry is valid for return visits free of charge within a calendar year
I went on a Sunday morning, when it was quiet. There were more staff than visitors at that time.
Have a look at the monitoring posts, there might be some of these near you
