Had to happen eventually

Well, hit the takeoff tab on my mini 3 pro. Took off hovered around 1m high. Pushed forward on both sticks, thinking it would clear a tree. Got about 10ft up and the bloody tree literally leapt out at the drone. Caught a twig , drone did a full circle within its own length, then shot 12ft across the street, where the trees mate was waiting with open branches. Hit that then fell about 7-8 ft to the ground.
Heart was thumping. Picked it up and turned it off. A cursory examination revealed a few scratches, no broken props / body parts. Gimbal seemed fine. Restarted it, connected to controller and within a minute said “Ok to fly”. Started it, took off flawlessly. Went a bit higher, ensuring the tree and its mate were well out of reach. Slowly gained height and distance. Tried a few manoeuvres and took a few photos and a short video. All seems ok. Lesson learnt :wink::wink:

Video or it didn’t happen

I’ll have a look at the flight log and see if I can post it here. Shortest flight Ive had. Be lucky if it went anymore than 4m at most.

Something similar happened to me the other weekend at Brougham Castle, hand launched, was a little breezy, I don’t know if I pushed up as the drone took off but it decided to nose dive into the wall in front of me. Good thing about these drones being so light is the only damage was an impact mark on the little rubber foot on the bottom of the drone, other than that unscathed even the props

Oddly I’ve never hit that button to take off!

I always use the take off tab. But thats just me :wink:

Apologies for this being a screenshot. I don’t know which file to download ( only just created the airdata, account.

Share form the airdata page (top right) gives u a link

Glad it survived the fall. Had a similar but mine was not so lucky.

Ahh I think I’ve done it :wink::wink:

Trees are scary for sure. Glad to hear it is in one piece.

I like what Ken Heron says in his crash compilation videos, “Trees are d*cks”

Funny all the trees round here are a lot higher than one meter. :grinning::man_running::man_running:

Oops.

I must say, Google Earth being able to overlay the GPX data onto Street View is very impressive.

Wow Earwig, you can almost see the look of terror in my eyes :joy::joy::joy::joy::joy:
Now that’s an impressive use of technology :wink:

I hope you’re going to sue the trees in question, “the bloody tree literally leapt out at the drone”, “the trees mate was waiting with open branches”. You hear many stories like this, it’s about time that trees are taken to task and made to pay for their attack on our much beloved drones. :deciduous_tree: :carpentry_saw: lol

Oh dunna worry, the backstreet barrister is on the case. He says I can sue the council for billions at the low, low cost of only 130% of whatever I win. :joy::joy::joy::joy::joy:

I did take off the once similar, the only thing was, I was below the edge of the tree and did not realise how close it was so i went straight up and hit it. Not good. Another time I was flying under the same tree, I was only about 8 feet away and the controller lost communication and said RTH… WAIT!!! I am under a tree. This is when I first got it. I grabbed it and the poor thing was fighting me to go up. (At this point I did not know that if the drone is turned over it will stop. The noise was not good. I had moved out from the tree but thought it may go back over. Then the control re connected and it hovered.
I have the file saves as… Drone does not like being held against it’s will.
