I was at Hampton Court Palace yesterday and had planned to take the drone up. I checked before setting off that there were no restrictions, all clear on both drone scene and drone assist.
So imagine my frustration when I found I can’t take off because according to DJI I am in a FRZ. I thought DJI had sorted out all this bullshit with their maps now?
I live within a legitimate FRZ for an airport and am able to fly by simply checking a tick box when the warning comes up. But there was no such option here so I don’t know how to get round it.
It is listed as a temporary restriction, but for a period of two years!
I have you updated the ‘flysafe’ database

I’m seeing some very strange things on DJI’s own GEO map. No surprise perhaps
There are a couple of “Restricted Zones” showing up, but not in all the places you’d expect them to be.
There’s one over Sellafield:
There’s another one over HMP Full Sutton:
But there’s NOT one over HMP Strangeways:
They were all I could find though
God only knows what DJI are doing this week

Yes I belive so, I shall double check later.
I tried going through the app on my phone too to try and see if I could unlock from my phone rather than on the remote, but seems I can’t even open the app any more.

Its pretty annoying. The hardware is great but their maps are making it pot luck as to whether to have a wasted trip or not.

The DJI restriction issue confusion continues
I went to make some changes to Drone Scene this morning, to add in some new support for these totally random and meaningless DJI Temporary Flight Restriction zones that Dave @Doginabag noticed on Sunday at Hampton Court, and the weird ones that I found over Sellafield and over HMP Full Sutton in York on Monday.
Today though…?
They’ve all vanished from DJI apps completely
Yesterday, Sellafield was listed on DJI apps as a Temporary Flight Restriction Zone (a TFZ):
Today, DJI are now classing Sellafield as an Enhanced Warning Zone (an EWZ) instead:

On Sunday, DJI were listing Hampton Court Palace as a TFZ, and they were physically preventing you from taking off here:
Today, DJI don’t have a single warning or zone over the top of Hampton Court Palace at all:

On Monday, DJI had a TFZ over the top of HMP Full Sutton and they prevented you from taking off anywhere in this circle:
And today, nothing. Not a single warning or restriction in place:

A perfect example of why using DJI’s “Fly spots” feature is dangerous, especially to the beginner pilots.
Their data just can’t be trusted.

I wonder how far I would get if I invoice DJI for an unnecessarily wasted trip.

Another good reason to never update the Fly app ever again

Use Drone Scene, because seeing this sets alarm bells ringing.
Don’t forget they update the Android version in the background, some people don’t have a choice
You can turn this off in the app and on the Devices Play Store, plus you can roll back the version on Andriod just never update the fly database in the drone
I do, which is why I turned up fully expecting to be able to fly.
But the DJI map put a hard block on me being bale to take off.
