I thought I had actually posted it…
Just occurred to me, maybe keep a bookmark of this from @ianinlondon handy to show the next one? It’s a few years old now, but the legality hasn’t changed.
Thanks for this, very helpful.
I have asked the caa about football stadium’s, there response wasn’t too helpful.
Just they couldn’t comment on my specific flight plan, and pointed me to the drone code…
I’ve gone back to them and asked is there a blanket nfz over football stadium’s in the UK. Maybe they will answer that
There isn’t an NFZ but there are FRZ but generally they are not over stadiums
Use Drone Scene, all the info is available, flying over a stadium isn’t a problem other than on match days because of the crowd and concerns over streaming the match
No need to stay discreet!!! In fact, hiding only makes you look more suspicious!!! Get out in the open and let them see you. If approached again, ask them “if it was illegal do you think I’d be standing out in the open where you and your cameras can see me? If you think I am doing something illegal then please feel free to call the police”
If they do call there’s a good chance they wont even show. They’ve got more important things to do. And if they do show, they’ll check the weight of your drone and if you have operator ID (if they have any grasp on drone law). They’ll then inform the security guard of your rights, and tell you to crack on. If the police that do show up don’t have a clue, ask them if they have a drone unit. A lot of forces have them now.
Thanks for all the replies.
I just wish I could get hold of something official in black and white that I could send to this guy at the club.
Don’t think he is accepting the truth, and will continue to send his army of Muppets out to anyone trying to fly.
I can’t get down now with my drone for a good few weeks, but will be putting it to the test again as soon as I can.
He should be the one providing the evidence that you cannot fly there.
Otherwise show him the area on drone scene and compare it to somewhere there is a flight restriction.
If you really want to go there with this mate my suggestion is to make contact with the SIA there are so many questions around this guys conduct and capability let alone the fact if he is licensed at all.
Security provider for the ground might need checking up on plus you’re looking out for the club and publics best interests
But please don’t be permanently mad over something that’s temporarily pissed you off I’m sure if you give him enough rope as the quote goes.
Also you could send them you’re pre flight report approval if it gets to that point
I will send them my flight plan, great idea
I’ve just had a reply from the caa which I will be forwarding onto the guy at the club.
As far as I’m concerned that will be the end of it. If I get hassle again then I’ll report that to the police
I have no objection to security asking a few questions, but then they need to be on their way.
Dear Andy
As long as you abide by the rules and guidance within the drone code and are happy that there is no restrictions in place (check the Drone Assist App map) and landowners permission (if applicable) is obtained, you can conduct your flight.
Kind regards
Something like CAP 2007
https://www.caa.co.uk/our-work/publications/documents/content/cap2007/
Ive sent them everything now, to the point they jsut ignore my emails.
Compeltely unprofessional attitude.
Will see what happens on my next visit.
Andy, go fly. Don’t waste any more of your time in discussion, just fly.
