So, my first video was of me following my wife’s car in Snowdonia whilst on holiday. The few bits of critique were mainly about the footage being ‘too much of the same’ and perhaps a bit too long.
At the time I didn’t have a camera (except for iPhone) so just shot with the drone - meaning I had no other perspective/angles to use. Also, I couldn’t shorten the video as I didn’t know how to edit the song so worked to its length.
Now, I’ve got a camera and learnt how to work with music. Pretty hard to spend any real time recording footage and editing it with a busy family and work life. So, one afternoon I told my kids and my wife to jump in my car (this time) and go for a drive…
Again, I’m open to any suggestions/opinions
PS. Somehow my drone didn’t record in LOG so it was a bit harder to match the camera video, but I think it’s close enough..
I use Davinci Resolve and they’ve added a new AI feature which allows you to change the time of the track. Stick the song in, tell it how long you’d like it and a few seconds later it does it for you! It’s not perfect, but in many cases it works.
Funny enough though, it couldn’t make this song short enough for me so I had to crop it myself. If you listen hard enough you’ll hear the cut, but if you’re not looking for it - it sounds ok (to me it does anyway!).
I liked this, reminded me of Top Gear. I’ve been trying to make car vids with the drone, my biggest issue is finding a location with enough space / parking to do it in safely.
Reminded you of Top Gear is probably the best compliment I could get, I think undeservedly
This area was near work, so I knew it very well. I had worked out in my mind what I was going to do and how before going to film. I knew that these roads would be fairly traffic free so wouldn’t be causing any danger to anyone else (despite lack of indicating and so on haha). Got my wife to assist with the camera and do the driving when I was flying the drone.
One thing I made sure was getting that low angle sun which I think made everything look soo much better. But, this meant that I only had a short period of time to do it so had to be really quick hence some footage looking a bit bumpy.
Thank you. The hardest thing for me is to sort through the footage and be brave with discarding most of it! When I only had a 2-3 minutes of footage left to work with, just cutting it down to match each bit left me with about a minute total. I really wanted to try and make it less repetitive and the result felt good.
Most of the drone footage is sped up. I used mini 4 pro and it’s not the fastest drone. I wanted to have the drone movement as well as the car (rather than drone static and car moving). This meant the car had to drive pretty slowly for the drone to be able to follow.
Colour graded all of it. I like filming in log both on my camera and on the drone, in my mind it also makes it easier to adjust the ‘look’ so that it all looks matching. For some reason though, still can’t figure out why.. the drone shot in normal format so it was pretty hard to colour grade. I also made mistake of have WB in auto, so I had a bit of a job adjusting white balance in the last ‘closing’ shot by creating keyframes and making smooth transitions - what a pain that was!
I’m really new to all of this and it’s a lot of fun. I enjoy the filming and the post production side of it so it’s a good hobby for me! I just need to find more time to do it all
That was great, love the slices and scenes (if thats what they are called) it adds so much having all those angles and view points. Cracking job !
I’d be very happy with that
