Also, @Pacefast, it looks as though you’re quite new here
Why not nip over to the Introductions page, and say hello properly and tell us a bit about yourself.
An unusual church there matey, and the edit was first class. Liked it.
How unusual! Thanks for posting. Any idea what the ball is for?
The Vicar of the Church says its not religious but to mark the hell fire club 300 feet below . The room below the Golden Ball was used for Hell fire meetings ! The whole set up very odd
I will do ! Sorry about the mess up not used to forum yet
Even more interesting, and time to do some research I think…
Should be a link in my U tube introduction which gives an in depth background !
I have been inside that golden ball !
As a child I lived in central High Wycombe, ( when it was nice ) one midsummer sunday in 1960 when I was 8 years old,
My old granny took me for the two mile long walk along west wycombe road to the caves.
I remember climbing up narrow stairs from inside the church entrance all the way up the tower into the ball.
The ball is a wooden sphere structure with a wooden bench seat 360 degrees around the inside.
Sat there for hours with a bottle of corona and bag of sandwiches, looking out of the portholes.
Then the ball was a brightly polished smooth copper sphere which reflected the sunlight for miles.
Looks a sorry state now.
I think the entrance cost was 6d for the globe and 1 shilling and sixpence for entrance to the caves,
where you were given a candle for lighting the way throughout the caves.
Now the experience has all been destroyed by commercialism, and you don’t get to go inside the ball because of
“health and safety” since about 1970.
That is a wonderful description thanks so much for sharing it !
No wonder I was so impressed by it and how the drone could make it look as if it was flying across the countryside !
This link says more and I am looking forward to filming the interior artwork of the Church with the drone
They are doing this to change the Church status so it can be restoref the Golden vall too
