Hey guys. I just reassembled a 5inch drone which I used to fly back in India. I reassembled everything as it used to be, but for some reason, I am getting an error in the GPS section.
It says- “3D fix : False”
And I am not able to turn the drone on. Every time I try, the beeper goes off continuously till I switch off.
I have checked the TX-RX wiring of the GPS module to FC and haven’t made any mistakes in that.
Anyone has any idea as to what might be the issue?
Thanks.
The 3D fix error is simply that it hasn’t yet locked onto sufficient satellites for a fix - from cold it can take a few minutes for the GPS to lock on.
If there’s another fault preventing the drone from booting then the GPS isn’t getting time to lock on
It may be stating the obvious, but have you checked the buzzer switch on your transmitter ?
ETA Some FCs can fully power the GPS module from the Betaflight USB connection, but some can’t and need a battery attached - don’t ask how I know ![ ](https://greyarro.ws/images/emoji/apple/wink.png?v=12)
I checked the buzzer switch with transmitter and it works perfectly. I tried taking the drone outside and arming. After connecting the battery and waiting for sometime, I could see that the drone connected to 14 satellites. (Weird thing is, it shows the same amount of satellites from indoor too.)
Maybe you are right, I’ll try taking it out again, connecting the battery and waiting for few minutes.
I think 14 is actually an error state, seen that before with faulty GPS. When I added GPS with auto land, the default was not to allow arming until it got locked.
You can change that option (which I did), but if you haven’t got lock before take off, then even if it gets position in flight the rescue mode won’t work. I don’t care too much, but it’s useful!

The issue resolved after keeping the drone on for about 15 mins. Now it is working perfectly with around 9 satellite locks. I guess it was a cold start issue.
Massive location change too. Can take ages. I now wire my quads so GPS is powered from USB so plug in a portable usb battery pack which powers FC, RX and GPS with no VTX over heat issues
