Rooted my CSU a few years ago (it might even have been my guide that you found), and I still use it to this day.

For real! I got one for $50 in the box at the local 600 garage sale here. It cant play videos or display the gps map in app, so i’m hoping i can root it and install VLC and some other apps to make it work better for me

$50 is a bargain, I paid more than that for a battery 
Also got a 703 ultrabright for $700

Yeah the downloaded look like they’re still there but they’re all in the #members-only category, you’d need to join the club to get in there. Details and prices in the FAQ.
