Hoffman Chimney and Kiln

Smashing little spot, buried in the woods in Llanymynech in mid-wales. Some proper history here, was a lime mining and processing facility for years… with the predictably appalling health consequences for the locals! :face_with_peeking_eye:

Makes for one epic little flying spot - @group-fpv would love this one. It’s pretty compact, but worth a trip. There is a museum / education building a couple of hundred metres away and I suspect they might get a bit sniffy if there were people on site but I was there mid week and had the place to myself.

Was here with the 3" Crux. Perfect spot for whoops and sub 250s, would be a bit tight with anything larger. And, no, didn’t have the balls to fully dive the tower. Damn, I tried though

Sadly it appears the Crux35 motors are a wee bit naff. They are fine for flying, but definitely have some pretty bad vibrations at certain frequencies (you can actually hear this in parts of the vid) This annoyingly translates directly into massive jello at particular speeds, so I’ve got some replacement motors on the way.

That’s only 15mins away from where I live, thanks for that I’ll pop down there and have a look.

Ah - superbly lucky, that’s a smashing area of the country. :grinning:

As mentioned, I was there mid-week and not a soul in sight.

At some point in the next month or two i will be heading over that way (towards Aberystwyth). The road I take is just beyond Oswestry. So i see a trip to that museum happening. is the chimney accessible from the ground?

Yup. The base is right next to the kiln and is just there, you can stand right next to it… as I did

I meant more like can you get inside it if you dropped your drone down it. :stuck_out_tongue:

Ahhhh… sorry! (Must confess I thought… you could just watch the video )

And… nope not a chance, it looked completely sealed. That would be a one way trip for sure. :face_with_peeking_eye:

Or some Fred Dibnah action with a hammer. :stuck_out_tongue:
