So, I agreed to meet with the Charity ‘HoverAid’ to record their testing of their new Hovercraft before it is shipped to Madagascar to join their other ‘workhorses’. Some of the clip actually ended up being used by ITV on an article they did on HoverAid. The venue is the Reservoir Bewl Water in Kent. They do not ordinarily allow drones to TOAL from their land, but I have a long relationship with them and they actively wanted me to film HoverAid to help them. Drone used was a 1st generation Mavic Pro. The flying backwards and sideways video was filmed ‘full chat’ in sport mode, so fun with the hovercraft sometimes only 4 metres or so away and with it’s own ‘pedal to the floor’. Footage of a hovercraft in action is a bit more unusual, so I hope you enjoy it - do please give it a ‘like’ on YouTube if you enjoy / don’t mind
Gee, thanks @seadog! They actually offered for me to go in the cabin and film from there but I was concerned that the cockpit shell would interfere with signal so just stayed on the shore. Cheers, Lee
I couldn’t agree more @stevesb , but I guess it keeps us on our toes, particularly when you have to also think about positioning of the drone to avoid ‘propwash’ from the hovercraft (water spray and sand) if you get too close.
Yes, I do a fair bit of commercial drone flight (mostly in London), so as you say being a rare opportunity and HoverAid being a charity, I offered my services to them for free. I always wanted one of those single person racing hovercrafts when I was a kid.
