How to attach VIFLY strobe to DJI Mini 3 Pro

Just taken the plunge to upgrade my Mini SE. For that old bird I have a nifty, 3D-printed mount that just clips to the underside of the drone. The mount does obscure the power button, so I use it only when I know I really need it. But it certainly helps to make old SE visible.

Anyone fitted a ViFly to the Mini 3 pro? I am sure my mount won’t work on the new 3, and I have not found an equivalent mount to the SE one. There are some available mounts, but none that are advertised as fitting beneath the body. I note that in other threads here, pilots have mounted strobes to the underside of the arms, usually one each side. I did want to stay with one underneath to keep the weight below 250g, and to avoid folding and packing issues. Velcro? Any experiences? Thanks everyone.

Yes that what I use with the Cree Strobons

With the one underneath you have to hand launch

You’re very unlikely to keep the weight on the mini 3 below 250 g with a strobe.

As for mounting, I (and many other people) use 3M Dual Lock (which is not actually Velcro sorry @SparkyFPV). You’ll get it included with a lot of the strobes.

Dual lock is more rigid when fastened, and has some tactile feedback confirming it’s attached. Where even strong Velcro has a bit more play, and the industrial stuff is actually a bit too grippy in big strips.

@Earl_Greybeard
I’ve only just got a mini 3 pro so can’t comment just yet but i have used the 3m ‘mushroom’ tape (like velcro) on other drone without any issues as well, and will be using on the mini when i get round to it definitely.
As @SparkyFPV shows above, loads of fixing points.

Yes I was referring to his comment and the fitment

This is true but it doesn’t stop you from flying in the correct class

That’s terrific. Thanks. Didn’t have the landing issue with the SE/Mini 2. If weight is not a consideration, I may use your approach of mounting under the props. That looks good, though I would have to buy a second light.

PS. I think the Vifly looks a lot more shallow than your Strobons, so it may well land OK.

Ha ha. I was under the illusion that I had kept the SE/Mini 2 within weight. Probably lighter in the first place than the 3 pro, with all its sensors.

But yes, I can still fly in A1, albeit with a little more caution when people are around. I tend to be cautious anyway. I will weigh everything up, and if the total is over 250 with the one light, I will add a second strobe and mount both below the rotors as in the pictures above.

You guys are so helpful. Thanks everyone. Raymond.

I will get some today. Did you get the 'heavy duty" ones, or the “low profile”?

Pack Size: 16 Individual Circles

Tape Type: CLEAR - Heavy Duty - 15mm Dia

Cool. Many thanks!

I grabbed an A2 CofC for just this reason, then it affords you a very similar degree of freedom even with the extra weight

I did the same, but I just wanted to be up to the job so to speak. Always afraid I will be accosted and need to give account of myself.

I mount a Vifly strobe on the top of my mini 2 with the velcro included, when attached the drone with strobe and battery weighs in at 246 gms measured on digital scales. no prblems experienced so far.

Same with the SE. I am gessing that the 3 pro is heavier to start with. Don’t know until I collect it.

How do you find the visibilty with the top-mounted light? Do you find it is in anyway obscured by the aircraft body? Depends of course on why you have the light mounted in the first place.

The Mini 2 was 242g so had a bit of leeway but the Mini 3 is 249g out of the box

Poor

Ah :frowning:
