HS2- Environmental. Jones Hill Wood near Great Missenden. Roald Dahl and Fantastic Mr Fox

I was interested to see this famous ancient wood from above and to see what is happening now the felling has taken place. (There was quite a lot of protest and opposition)
Apparently it has been continuous woodland since at least 1600. HS2 undertake to use ecologists and other specialists to transfer soil from the “donor” site to the “ receptor” site. Whilst acknowledging that some losses will occur, the idea is to “translocate the habitat”. Full details via the link below. There is a “woodland management zone” between the donor and receptor sites.
The photo showing the patchwork of different soil shades is the receptor site, which is above and to the right of the woodland management zone in DJI_0627
DJI_0671 shows the receptor site in more detail.
The “donor” site is the triangular area to the left/or below the remaining trees.

Apologies, the DJI file numbers seem to have disappeared :grimacing:

Interesting to see this. Will make for an interesting discussion next time I’m speaking to my ecologist colleagues!

Maybe you could ask them if the shortish lengths of different looking species are left on their individual plots (2nd photo from top) to show what needs to be replanted there in the receptor area? Unless they are just piles waiting to be cleared up?!
