Iced tips FLIGHT WARNING

Just a warning to those that want to fly this morning.

Driven an hour to get to my destination to have this after hovering for just 60 seconds to let the motors warm up.
Needless to say I’ve cancelled my flight.
I always do this test when it’s sub zero conditions but never seen it happen. Looks like I’m driving home again

I wouldn’t be put of by that Steve.

Are you below -15C there atm?

Lol, no chance. More -1.5

This was after just 60 seconds hovering though. Along with a motor warning

Gave me the willies

Ok, granted, I’d pull back, re-assess and re-check everything if I got that kind of warning in an app too. You didn’t mention that part

Check the flight logs, be interesting to see which motor, and if it happens again in the future.

Trying to work out how to share Airdata through the app. any tips? 🤦🏽

They have an app? :man_shrugging:t2:

I’ve only ever used the web site

There’ll be a detailed CSV you can download from there which might give you some insight as to which motor.

Removed and re installed the props, problem seems to of gone away, will be keeping an eye on that though. Hoping it’s just the low temperatures messing with it.

Got some photos so will check details when I get back :+1:

@McSteamy2010
Where do I go to get that notifications information.

Thanks
Mick.

Does this work?

Some full size rwin engined aircraft had dents in the fuselage from ice thrown off the props BEFORE the idea of prop deicing came in.

Managed to get in the air after the slight panic of ice and warnings

By uploading your log files to airdata.com.

From my A2CofC and GVC studies you should be careful flying with an air temperature of 5 Centigrade or lower as ice can easily be formed by way of the props high speed slicing through the air (particularly if mist).

It doesn’t need to be below 0 degrees for ice to form on props that are spinning fast and consequently the stability of the craft can be compromised by way of the weight of the ice and flow of the air over the props.

I had it a couple of years ago when flying at Breedon On The Hill. Got the warning and when landed had ice on the props. The warning is because of the weight of the ice on the props. The ice is from flying in freezing mist or fog. You don’t TEND to get the ice if the skys are clear yet freezing.

Hence

Literally just after a 60sec hover this formed. Not experienced this before and flown in colder weather, The think fog probably didn’t help. My second launch up above the fog had no effects.

True, I guess the props are that precise they would detect the smallest change.
A bit like an unbalanced car wheel.
