Idiots and drones - Starlings and Seals

Article on my news feed but lost the author

Apparently someone was flying a drone into starling murmurations last week down at Brighton Pier. The birds scattered. Pissed few people off!

Thanks @PingSpike

GADC could arrange a murmuration of drones?

Far more spectacular! I mean - those starlings never crash into each other!

Perhaps “an absurdity” is a better collective noun? :stuck_out_tongue:

Just heard another complaint disturbing seals resting…

That’s been reported before, but the same people who say don’t fly drones near seals as it disturbs them , also say they use drones to survey seal colonies as it’s less disruptive to the seals.

I seem to recall watching BBC wildlife programmes, made David Attenborough, that use drones to film various scenes…

Sad thing is, no matter how many legit, law abiding, rule following, safe flyers there are, it’s only the complete losers, who just don’t care or give a damn, that the media wants to write about and therefore they are the only examples of drone use, the majority of the general public gets to read about and sadly that means the majority of drones are regarded as bad.

As for wildlife programmes and using drones to survey wildlife, I would not consider that the same as some loser disturbing wildlife. Those people most likely have permissions and licences to use drones for whatever purpose and I have no doubt the drone pilots are far better qualified, than the majority of the drone flying community and it’s unlikely they would be buzzing the wildlife and more likely they would be using drones that would be flying as far from the wildlife they are filming or surveying as possible.

Agree Completely. You always get one Dumb Ass with only 2 Brain Cells but will never change. :rage:

Just take a drive down any motorway on any given day at any time.

The Cornwall Seal Group Research Trust is asking drone operators to keep their distance from wildlife.

Sue Sayer, founder of the charity, saw 11 sleeping seals dart into the water after they were spooked by a drone flying overhead.

I’ve moved your post to this thread @Outrunner as it was covered earlier in the week.

What makes it worse with those idiots, is that 1 brain cell is lost and the other 1 is out looking for it.

Ha Ha LOL…Spot on with that statement friend.

I agree with your sentiments entirely. The only good story I have seen is someone finding a lost dog.

Didn’t someone find a dog using a drone, then set up a company or something, where they would offer to search for lost dogs wit drone. Sure I heard something about that recently… but yeah, like I say, the media just isn’t that interested in the good news stuff, the bad stuff sells papers. I mean yeah drones used to locate criminals or search for people, animals it’s like normal search and rescue and police work, it’s what certain people do for a living and they are trained, so unless they are looking for someone famous or a criminal that’s been in the headlines for weeks, you’re unlikely to read about it, unless it’s a local newsletter… When you think about it though, when you think what the majority of drone pilots get up to, the only kind of people that would want to read about it, are the very people that subscribe to this site and they ARE NOT the ones that need educating…, nor are they the ones the media give a damn about

In general, the media are only interested in shock headline grabbing to sell their rags. Real human stories get shoved to the bottom of the in tray tottering to fall into the wastepaper bin. Or am I just an old sceptic?

*sell their advertising.
