As I was one of the lucky ones to visit RAF Cranwell, I checked out Drone Scene for a place to fly and came up with this fantastic castle, near Grantham.
I was interupted, just after take off, by a Pro Photographer alighting his open topped mazda MX5. He too was keen to capture this fabulous structure perched high on a hill.
He loved the tech, and marvelled at how it had advanced so much in a relatively short time, before he pulled out the biggest lensed camera I’d seen in a long time ( this is not a euphonism thank the Lord).
Turned out he was a local, and had been the castle’s press photographer for 3 yrs before he moved on. I made a new friend that day and have kept in touch.
He loved the video I came up with, and posted it’s YT link on a local FB Group. It’s had 127 views and I haven’t made it public yet (at the time of this post).
@TheBinman Thanks Jason, I thought the place was brill, and know what you mean about ignoring your local attractions. I live 5 mins from Shugborough Hall, and didn’t start visiting regularly until after I filmed there (unfortunately though, I’ve now gotten hooked on cream teas!).
I’ve found I use both though (in my case my phone as don’t have an SLR camera). I have a passion for history, which is odd considering I hated the subject at school! I’ve found that combining the ground and aerial footage with a voiceover scratches an itch I have to explore, record and pass on my findings through the power of YT! I
l have also discovered I love editing too, fortunately, and continue to learn all this stuff in my retirement. Win, win.
Oh, and the cream tea thing, I work off the inches playing golf and mucking about in the mountains!
Like Jason said it’s round the corner from us and haven’t visited there in years nice vid though and nice of the guy to share you’re work through his links
Phone cameras have come a long way and tremendously improved over the last decade.
I now use my phone camera more than the DSLR and those heavy f2.8 lens. My 70-300mm fixed f2.8 sigma lens weighs 2.5kgs and that’s without the Nikon d500, which is another 1kg.
Love it or hate it, having A.I integrated into photo editing software makes post processing so much easier and now it’s accessible on phones too.
By the way all, it was GADC that lit the fuse that ignited my adventure in videography, and one man in particular who inspired me through his “docuvids” and encouraged me when I reached out to him for help. All at a time when he was at a pivotal moment in his life and I thank him for that.
You know who you are @clinkadink Chris, and thanks mate.
