Never tried Photoshop so I can’t compare, but as per @HantsFlyer I do use Retouch.
The Apple photos app changes seem a bit new still. I think they’re missing some of the brush or selection tools. Waving my finger or drawing a circle around an object doesn’t quite do what I expected it to do.
If I recall initially it was free, then they charged a minimal fee for better removal features. From the sounds of it the App has increased considerably in cost.
Photoshop introduced the ‘Remove Tool’ with its last update which works well on some subjects. Obviously it struggles with some and I’ve usually had to do a bit of tidying up but it’s generally very good.
So I fully tried out the Apple feature yesterday in removing bits from an image. I found I had to repeat the process a number of times to achieve the result. Apple need to improve this feature as the likes of Retouch and no doubt others are far superior over it.
I’d agree with you there, it’s not to the standard of the other well known photo editing apps (Adobe, Luminiar, Topaz, etc…) who have been using AI technology for over 12 months now.
The Apple photos app is probably good enough for joe bloggs, who used their phone for all their photos, but it’s won’t be acceptable to DSLR / Mirrorless camera users, until their AI improves.
