Julia 0 Tree 1 = Lost Drone ... Updated - Now Found!

@Yith too tip thanks
But tree still winning.

Two and half hour of shaking tree.

But a few blisters and good healthy exercise. Gym not needed today. Lots of sticks and leafs no longer in tree but still a (now silent drone) somewhere camouflaged.

Bah… next is a really long pole…

This appears to be what the drone saver is…

There may be longer and/or cheaper options…

How far up is it?

Dont know! Can not see it at all. I could hear it on Friday, but me & Ms Sleight as well as a random dog walker could hear but not see where the in lovely, wonderful oak tree it was located. I am guessing about 10-12 metres up.

I think I need a few leafs to fall off. But I am guessing it is not that weather proof.

For reference - rope tied to long sock, within sock a 1/2 litre bottle of water works ok as a Arborist throw weight. Dense weight would be better, I think I may try and sew up a pouch this week or some tightly packed gravel.

Hmm… first thing is to find it then… maybe some binoculars?

How about using your DJI Mavic Mini to locate it?

I used my Mavic 2 Pro to drop a line with a hook on the end over a drone stuck in a tree. I then pulled on the other end to pull it out of the tree.

I love the diagram !

I am going to download the footage from my Mini - did a video of the top of the tree. (Just got to do some errands) For some reason I did not take the mini that close to the splendid oak tree so will have to zoom in on video.

I suspect I’m not alone in examining that pic in minute detail ?

Might have been easier to spot with brightly coloured props, but a black drone with clear gray props is going to be hard to see :frowning:

Currently studying a video of a flyover.

Yep, black drone, grey props, grey battery.

I learning so much  How to rattle a tree, which colour is good for a drone. How to zoom a video

Don’t forget to upload it so we can all help look at it

I have, but I think I need to accept the fabulous oak tree have this drone until high winds or full winter. By which time It will be knackered.

I have zoomed in last parts.

Worse thing happen. Thanks for the fun and support but time to walk away.

Thinking…some pics from below, taken close to the trunk, may show it highlighted against the sky. Or maybe at night illuminated from below

Happy days

Did exactly the same (though not FPV) on one of my first flights and got stuck in a similarly sized oak tree. I think this is the first time I have admitted it publicly. :joy:

Ended up hightailing it to the nearest garden Centre to get one of these.

Then climbing the tree to around 3/4 of the way up and then out along one of the branches before I could get close enough to poke it out. Was pretty stupid to be fair, a fall from that height wouldn’t have been pretty, but no way I was giving up on a <1 week old drone!

Hope you manage to get it out.

Know any tree surgeons? Or Spiderman?

I do not heights and I would not like someone to a climb on my behalf. The drone, with some time to save up the cash is replaceable.

The blisters from rope burns on my hand are just about recovered, I with have a go at shaking the tree with a rope again this weekend as it may have shed more leaves. (Arboist Throw Weight)

problem is the longer you leave it I’m not sure what you will be recovering given weather exposure

battery wont be good I expect, the electronics would be questionable, and the motors too… frame will be ok… saved £100 of the rebuild?

Yep - I kinda written it off after the first week :frowning:

You may be surprised.
Frame should be OK, and the props,
Motors are mostly stainless steel, copper, and alloy so could be OK.
Electronics - questionable, though may just need a long period of drying out.
Battery - most likely toast after being discharged for so long

i wasn’t sure about the bearings in the motors considering the speed they spin at.

I believe they are sealed stainless ball bearings, so could well be fine, though of course new motors aren’t too expensive
