King Alfreds Tower, Bruton - Added to National Trust in South West

I have just added this to the map of places to fly your drone at Drone Scene:

Land owner permission not required.

King Alfreds Tower

King Alfred’s Tower is a folly in Somerset, England, on the edge of the border with Wiltshire, on the Stourhead estate. The tower stands on Kingsettle Hill and belongs to the National Trust. This is National Trust so TOAL is not permitted within the towers grounds but can be done from nearby.

Parking on site is free and exploring the wooded grounds is must.

The originator declared that this location was not inside a Flight Restriction Zone at the time of being flown on 20/11/2021. It remains the responsibility of any pilot to check for any changes before flying at the same location.

Where is the best place to TOAL for this location to avoid NT land?

Harry @hws the NT land boundaries are all on Drone Scene, you’re spoilt for choice if you don’t want to TOAL from their land

Brilliant! Thank you so much, that is massively appreciated. Apologies, I am still learning Drone Scene and I’m constantly amazed at all of the information available on it. Thanks again!

I’ve just added a new Take Off And Landing marker to this location @McSteamy2010 :slightly_smiling_face:

If you walk down Tower Road from the free car park you can TOAL across the road from Alfred’s Tower (right hand side if the tower is on your left) which is outside NT land. Stop when you get level with the tower and walk into the clearing behind the thin line of trees on the opposite side of the road to the tower. The tower itself will be in clear line of sight for your flight.

I visited today although the wind was a little heavy for my drone, but I will go back on a day with better conditions because it is a great location and quite dramatic. The tower itself is closed at this time of year but the land around it is open and there were a few people walking in the area.
