Along the Northumberland coastline lies King Edward’s Bay, a picturesque sandy beach situated beneath the historic town of Tynemouth. The bay is surrounded by cliffs and overlooks the North Sea, making it a popular destination for visitors and locals throughout the year.
The beach takes its name from King Edward VII, who visited Tynemouth during his reign. The area has a long connection with tourism and seaside recreation, with Tynemouth becoming a popular coastal destination during the Victorian era as railways made the North East coastline much easier to reach.
Overlooking the bay is Tynemouth Priory and Castle, a historic site with origins stretching back many centuries. The combination of the beach, cliffs, historic buildings and North Sea coastline makes King Edward’s Bay one of the most recognisable coastal landscapes in the region.
Today, the bay remains a popular place for walking, surfing, swimming and enjoying the coastline. These aerial photographs capture King Edward’s Bay from above, showcasing its sandy beach, dramatic coastline and the historic surroundings of Tynemouth.
