Let’s Edit: Is This Photo Worth The Effort?

I’ll have an entry in soon. Been away from home a lot lately with work. But as kirky says, the time to pull the plug is whenever it suits you

No worries, in that respect, I’ll give it a few more days. Seemed like there was no other interest

@Leylo1971 Late to the party on this one, was going to have a bash at this, but your WeTransfer has expired Ady.

Sorry mate, do you want us to upload it again?

No worries Ady :+1: No, it’s fine thanks, probably time to move on to the next one.

I’ll call it… @Kirky wins

I don’t wanna win - I’m all for learning with someone else’s picture :rofl::+1:

Okay we’re going to close this last one off now,
Would anyone like to participate in supplying an image for us all ‘ I say all but there’s not many of us lol ‘
Would anyone like us to have a crack at a picture, Drone or handheld camera the choice is yours preferably the DNG, RAW would be better but if you only have a jpeg that’ll do to keep things going, if so just post what you have here with a brief description job done ….

I’m sure I could find a RAW pic if you like @kirky ?

No probs @Kirky Here is a RAW DNG of Glasgow Clydeside from about 3yrs ago, shot on a Mavic 2 Pro IIRC.

I think John has set us a challenge

I deliberately didn’t upload all 5 images from the HDR that was shot, I thought using only 1 would make it a bit more difficult to come up with a good final pic

And how bloody right you are :+1:

Just to add to the challenge, thought I’d try editing this one using nothing more than the native photos app on my iPhone…

Cropped in slightly. Highlights down, shadows up (quite a lot!). Took the warmth down slightly to make the sun less harsh and added some tint as that seemed to look better than what I had before.

As always, finished off with a light vinaigrette… I mean vignette.

Here’s my go…well two of them, framed and not.

Now, where to begin…

straightened things up a little, the horizon , the tower.

got shut of a couple of distractions, ship at the bottom and a black building in the centre. (luminar)

cropped.

wanted to make a feature of the sun, tower and a couple of buildings, plus where the light shone. (LR)

global adj. first, sat, vib, shadows etc (LR)

next onto masks… toooo many to list, but radial for the sun and also for the slight vignette. a couple for sharpening and some more shadows (LR)

added a few light rays from the sun to hopefully give it a bit of depth

used a couple of tools in studio 2, precise detail and contrast, AI clear.

colour grading lightroom, bit of noise reduction and a tad of sharpening.

added frame to hopefully match.

I’m happy anyhow

took about and hour, but I’ll tell you what, I enjoyed it, ta John :grinning:

cant really give a breakdown of exactly what I did, because once I get past the global stuff, straightening and crop in lightroom, I flit from prog to prog depending on which tool I want.

Thought id have another go but that sky keeps beating the crap out of me  so I swapped the sky out :sunrise:

My version of it. I found the lower half of the image to be too cool, so created two separate images from the RAW DNG, one for the sky and one for the land. I changed the land image’s white balance to make it a lot warmer in colour to match the sky. I then blended the two images in PS using a layers mask. I then tweaked the colours and contrast.
