Light Spot - Any ideas as to why and how to solve it?

I wonder if anyone has come across this before and has an explanation as to what is happening - better still, how to stop it? This is something I have noticed on one or two of my videos, always in similar conditions.

If you check the video below, there is a light spot (possible reflection?) traveling across the screen. This happen from 3.16 to 3.27. The sun is pretty much directly behind the drone and camera and, as far as I can determine, the drone body would shield the camera from the sun. Could it be a reflection off of one of the legs? Has anyone else observed this phenomenon?

Hey Steve Looks to me like the sun reflecting off the soaking wet grass probably with a slight incline hence the sun that is behind is reflecting infront. It is panning across the screen at the same speed as you pan to the left.
Lovely looking video by the way. Haven’t got time to watch it all right now but will watch the full video later. Thanks for sharing :slightly_smiling_face:

The only way to “solve it” is to switch off the Sun.

It’s called The Glory Phenomenon.

You see it from planes when looking down in a direction that has the Sun directly behind your line of sight … and your drone is a plane.

Obviously, humid days are worse, really dry days better.
Early morning / Late evening worse … as the humidity nearer the ground increases.
The higher in the sky the sun is means more likely to be out of shot.

So it even happens under moonlight too :open_mouth:

Can do … full moon and clear sky. Humidity tends to be higher, too.

Ahh, that explains it. Thank you for that Dave. A very interesting read. I just KNEW that someone on here would be able to explain it.

When I used to fly planes, it used to fascinate me.

It can be a tad hypnotic, since it moves at the same speed as the plane.

We take you now to live scenes as Nicola Sturgeon is briefed that the entire UK drone industry is relocating to Scotland.
