Has anyone used Litchi for planning video capture of areas for 3d mapping?
been using pix4d capture for stills but can’t see that it works for video and client is asking to try it.
cheers

Tagging @Longstride, since he’s done quite a bit of 3D / pix4d mapping and might know.
Thanks @OzoneVibe ! Its been a while guys, but yes I know it IS possible to create orthomaps and 3D models from video. However there are some gotchas…
Photogrametry software is basically taking each frame or photo and using the GPS meta data to work out where the drone was in the sky and where it was facing etc. Then it does the mathmatical magic to match a pixel in shot 1 to the same pixel in shot 2 and do some trig to create a 3d location of that same pixel. Thats how you get the point cloud that becomes a 3D mesh/model later.
So if your video has the GPS coords stamped on each frame in the video and your software (Pix4D or Open Drone Map etc) can support reading a video as input you can probably do this.
Good luck!
cheers guys
gonna give it a go, set up litchi with start and stop video on similar fly bys as if was doing stills see how it looks
