No and I admit its unlikely but weird things happen with radios. I worked for many years for a company who used radio controls to operate cranes. This was military grade stuff, digital interlocks, frequency hopping, fail safes, the whole works. One particular client had a problem when the controls were operated all the VW group cars in the car park unlocked and sounded the alarms. Bit funny at the time and not dangerous but an illustration of what can happen. So for me better safe than sorry.
You 100% should turn controller on first. There is a chance (granted a small one) that the drone could connect to another controller and well the consequences donât bear thinking about
Well said
Ask any RC plane pilot which is turned on first.
Itâs the controller for me.
How about tryign to fly it without the phone attached? I think that is your problem, nothing to do with the control, cables or drone itself.
Iâve had an old phoen freeze on me in the past. If that happens whilst youâr flying, you can switch off the remote, unplug the phone and switch on the remote agian to re-establish contact. If youâre quick enough it wonât have initiated a RTH at that point. Even if it has, you can cancel and continue flying.

Thanks Ian.
I flew it again last night in the garden with a different phone and cable after updating again.
No issues.
Im not sure it would have rth yesterday, it was only around 15 feet away and 20 feet up.
Completely unresponsive.
Need to try again later today.
This is great advice and something flyers should practice on once in a while, way too many people I have seen flying constantly have their heads in the screen.
I think its also worth remembering that RTH behaviour isnât something you should set once and then forget about, it should become part of your pre flight routine, or at least check on a regular basis.
Now thatâs damned good advice, Iâll add it to my check list.
Great advice!
