Hi all, I joined over the weekend and this is my first post on the forums. Im a pro drone pilot and have a couple of Mavic 2 Pros but yesterday I bought the Mini2 for things like estate agency work and jobs closer to houses and people.
Been out flying it and putting it through its paces this morning., The 4k footage is just as good as the Mavic, the photos are a bit more grainy but that’s down to a 1/4 in sensor vs a 1 inch sensor on the Mavic.
From the test flights on the Mini2 this morning I wish there was a way to slow down the circle mode as I use this a lot in my work. It seems to start off at 2-3mph then gets to 8mph but then goes up another gear to 13.5mph but it only does one rotation so I’m ending up with footage at differing speeds. With the Mavic I can adjust the speed of rotation and how many rotations it makes and this would be handy to do in camera rather than have to slow it down in post. Are you guys finding the same thing?
I did that for years until the function came out on the (I think) Phantom 4 and it does a very good job on the Mavic 2 Pro that I cant understand why the speed increases so dramatically on the Mini2.
You mean on quickshots? I’ve not noticed a change in speed. Apart from the beginning and end it should stay pretty constant speed in the circle mode. I guess in the oval boomerang mode it might speed up and slow down.
It’s the circle mode in quickshots. I dont know if im expecting too much of this drone as i also fly the mavic 2 pro and you can vary speed on the fly. What I’ve noticed with the mini2 is that it starts off about 3mph then gets to 8mph before rising to 13.5mph. This makes is pretty much impossible to get a full circle withouth a slow to racing change in speed. If the drone did more than one rotation it would be helpful as once it got to full speed you could let it do a 360 from that point but it only goes round the block once with the speed varying a lot in the first 1/4 to 1/3 of the circle
cant say yes or no to that, I only got it 2 days ago and have only flown it properly once. First impressions are very good but as I fly professionally and use circle a lot for construction and housing shots I want the speed to be constant. From my testing yesterday over 6 or 7 goes it starts off slowly and then begins to get faster and faster which makes for difficult editing. The only thing to do really is to cut the accelleration part and just use the portion where the speed becomes constant.
For me the end speed is too fast for commercial work but I did some testing today slowing the drone speed in Final Cut to 75 then 50 and finally 25 percent and all 3 looked good
One thing you could try is making the circle larger. If you’re further away from the target it’ll transcribe a larger circle and obviously take longer. That might mean the constant speed part is a much larger proportion of the circle.
I have just looked at some MM2 footage shots around my place and it stays at constant slow perfect speed if it’s the original file, only when I switch to Quickshots viewing that I get this slow then gets faster speeds.
what’s it like when you download it to your computer? for me it looks fast when viewed in real time on the screen as im flying and that is the same when i download it as well
I may be expecting too much out of this little fella lol. Im used to the Mavic 2 Pro where you can do all that and more. I was just hoping that circle on the mini2 was the same as the M2P
You’re right of course but if most things like the controls, RTH etc work the same across all platforms I would have liked circle mode to do the same, this in no way changes my very positive thoughts on the mini2 and I’m looking forward to using it professionally next week on a client shoot
