Mavic Pro video for charity

Earlier in the year my drone flying friend and ex work colleague was asked to video a boat sailing on Christchurch harbour for the Roald Dahl Foundation, and he asked me along to fly with him.

We did a few shots over the water and this footage went to the film makers who were creating one of 10 promotional films to show the work of Roald Dahl nurses in helping seriously ill young people.

The ads haven’t been aired yet, but he was phoned a few weeks ago to get permission to release his footage to the BBC.

The lad we filmed goes to the Sea Scout group where I’m a boating instructor and was a leader for 10 years, and he has been given a 2020 Rotary Young Citizen Award which is incredible.

This is the video put together by Rotary from his BBC News 24 interview and from the promo video.
It’s the drone footage in the last few seconds overflying the boat that we shot.

On the back of that, we are hoping to go commercial next year as we both have jobs that we can time manage and he has some outline offers of work.

Edit Hope this is better, I’m not used to embedding here

I was planning to get some sailing training down there this year … Covid put a stop to that … nice drone footage at end …

Thanks, we had a lot of fun and there’s a bit more out there.
We’ll have to see what they use when the ad comes out for RD.

Great to fly at HHC, but had to get council permission as it’s no fly there because of the nature reserve.

I qualified as a powerboat instructor after 40yrs of experience, and am an assistant Dinghy instructor.

10th Christchurch (Mudeford) Sea Scouts - our HQ is at Stanpit rec boat at HHC and I am sorry to have missed a term sailing and also the 3 RYA Powerboat 2 courses I had been in booked to teach this summer.

Hopefully things will stabilise next year.

Thanks for sharing that video it’s brilliant and inspiring. I used to have a dart 16 and sailed at Worthing yacht club then Grapham Waters but had to sell her due to health issues. It’s always heart rendering when you hear about kids like this. So well done
